It's possible that back when I added pod2man.pl, we could still run 
on systems that only had perl4.  I don't quite remember.  All I know 
is that on the system I tested with, the man pages didn't have the 
links properly set.

My suggestion is a removal of utils/pod2man.pl and trusting the 
administrator (we could add a note at an appropriate place, saying 
what perl version seem to be current enough).
