Sorry, my wording was a bit unlucky.
I just somehow got the impression that documentation claimed somewhere there 
_is_
support for 64-bit compilation on AIX with gcc (can't seem to find the part the
induced that thought any more, though, I might have mixed up gcc+AIX on the one
hand and xlc+AIX64 on the other while reading or something), so I was thinking
there might be a problem with that configuration which caused removal of it
(after all, if it doesn't work and you don't have access to a machine to test 
and
fix it, that's sometimes the best option...), so essentially I wanted to know if
there's a known problem with it and I was just lucky to not have encountered it
(yet) or if it really is just a new configuration.
