[ Note that this goes to the list. I'm not really trying to create a
flamewar, but rather to get some constructive ideas and results ]

sjsobol> > (a) The list is purposefully wide open, as noted on
sjsobol> > http://www.openssl.org/support/. I believe the reason
sjsobol> > would be a concept called "service".
sjsobol>
sjsobol> I'm not going to get into a holy war about whether the list
sjsobol> should be open or not. I'm just irritated that there is
sjsobol> apparently no way to avoid some of the things that have
sjsobol> happened recently - the misdirected autoreplies, the
sjsobol> junkmail, etc.

There are other ways. But I want to appologise for the way I
expressed that, it wasn't quite meant to be that harsh. It's just
that this has been asked and said before, and is getting a bit old...

sjsobol> But since everyone else's opinion is apparently "shut up and
sjsobol> eat your spam", maybe I should just quit complaining, eh?

See above.

sjsobol> Um. I'm not the owner of the openssl mailing lists and I have
sjsobol> ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL WHATSOEVER over list policy.

I know. However, I'm pretty sure that the list manager(s?) listens
and might therefore take the input and possibly do something, perhaps
even take my suggestion to heart.

sjsobol> All I know is I'd like to stay subscribed to the lists, since
sjsobol> they are the official lists, and I'd like to avoid seeing
sjsobol> junkmail, and I'd like to avoid getting five zillion copies
sjsobol> of some idiot's autoreply when they go on vacation.
sjsobol>
sjsobol> That apparently is too much to ask.

No, it's not, and is not what I wanted either.
