I have the same problem with IE. I also have a self-signed certificate that works fine in Netscape 6.2 but fails with at least IE 5.0 and 5.5. See my earlier post on November 1 for more details, "SSL_read failure on IE 5".

That wouldn't explain why the image fails to load (as soon as the
certificate is received by the browser, it drops the connection).
IE gets the certificate and just says FU, bye-bye.
