One other thing of note:  If I attempt to load the image directly
"by hand" in the browser by typing the url ("https://myserver/logo.gif";),
then it DOES pop up the certificate dialog and if I accept it works fine.
Or, if I load the initial html file that references this secure url
securely,
then it pops up the certificate dialog for the main request and everything
works
fine.

It only fails to display the dialog when trying to get a secure url from a
non-secure url.
