We are using ESXi in production setup with Neutron networking. ESXi is
compatible with OpenStack and specifically
with neutron networking. You need to add some rules in ovs and for the
same you can refer below link.

If we could add ESXi nodes to our current OpenStack zones, even if
there were some known functional shortcomings, it would give us some
breathing room on evaluating SDN vendors in a diligent manner.
