I had some trouble to configure my system, which I want to have an external
USB disk. After the initial boot I connected that device executed the yast
partitioner and added the device in /etc/fstab. However a reboot did not work
anymore, not even with the USB disk disconnected. In that case GRUB did not
complete the boot process.

So I started all over again. I made small steps and now I have a system that
only boots with a disconnected USB disk, but it has an entry in /etc/fstab for
that device, so when I connect the USB disk after the boot, the system mounts
the device and I have the system I want. The remaining problem so far, is that
it does not survive a power failure.
