* system  was no longer accessible via ssh
* system was no longer accessible via console
* Application (owncloud) was still accessible but errors in logs
* After off/on grub complained "error: unknown filesystem"
* fsck on EFI partition (mmblk0p1) was ok
* fsck on ROOT partition (mmblk0p2) complained about errors 
   fixing (fsck -y ...) resulted in empty filesytem - all files gone to 
   lost and found

No, not with fsck - resulted in empty FS
