The disk can be pata, but if the hard disk controller has 6 years old
(tending to obsolete), I mean it is ide type, then the conflict betwen
ide/pata.

In my computer, it has 4 modes:
2 for raid mode.
1 ide native emulation
1 ahci

If I set it to "ide native", the systems ignores it and asumes ahci.

Its related the chipset, because it can be a buggy version, or it can
be obsolete, and is no more supported (as You said circa 2001).
