Hey Group;
SuSE 10.3 Beta2
I use runlevel 3 just for info. I have recently had a problem with my
printer which was found readily by Yast2. The problem is that every
time I go to print I needed to run Yast2. I think I have found the
problem. In /etc/init.d/rc3.d there is mentioned in the README a S20lpd
linked to ../lpd. But there is no ../lpd script. The README mentions
"/etc/init,d/lpd start" and "/etc/init,d/lpd stop" but there is no lpd
script.
lpq sees a print job waiting. lprm will remove so cups seems to be OK
# o /etc/init.d/README
INIT.D(7) The SuSE boot concept
INIT.D(7)
That file is just an example file explaining "The SuSE boot concept",
obviously a very old file and nothing really to do with printing using cups.
I think there is a LPD option in YaST to allow remote printing to
servers that still don't do IPP.
If I remember correctly, your printer is a HP, "hp-setup" from the
hlplip package may be the thing to run.
I used to have a problem where on every boot, YaST used to present me
with a particular "NEW" printer found, hp-setup solved that and I only
had to use YaST to get IPP broadcasting to work.

Sid.
