I tried again according to https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=218122#c18 'activate_dm_linear /dev/sda' as soon as GUI YaST installer gave me the language selection screen. I still don't see any mapper devices added to /dev, and it isn't possible to return to YaST to test.
