I later found out that the live DVD had been coined by Frederic Crozat, and I was able to get some hands-on help from him with a kernel/video driver issue at Desktop Summit in Berlin (where I also met some of the other openSUSE guys). Since then I've run openSUSE GNOME:Factory as my stable-ish GNOME development desktop, and dual-booted Mageia which sometimes has newer packages. (Fedora runs on my -- seldom-used -- desktop machine.) If I post a question here, Dominique has often already experienced, and solved, the issue. These days I'm (frantically) writing some 3.6 help pages, and eagerly await the landing of the contents of GNOME:Next in GNOME:Factory.
