In the meantime I've done a successful Gnome 3.6 update on a similar
12.2 system with mixed Gnome 3.4.2/KDE 4.8.5 and other package repos.
However this time on another hardware, hp8710p w/Intel T9500 and nVidia
3600M. Here the 3.6 Gnome Control center (system Settings) works quite
fine, just a warning when starting it in a terminal:
(gnome-control-center:2109): info-cc-panel-WARNING **: PackageKit
version 0.7.4 not supported
No problems with use of Norwegian locale or adding Gnome-Apps repo.
This sounds to me that the gnome-control-center issue I've got on the
first AMD/ATI based workstation might be related to this hardware(?)
So to the listed suggestions above which I mostly also had tested
previously, without mentioning it explicitely
1-2. The gnome-control-center was tested and broken already after
'zypper dup --from GS36'. Afterwards I added the GNOME:Apps repo as
mentioned in a previous reply due to the broken banshee.
5. English locale was also tested, so also adding lang packages for
Norwegian locale.
Yet, tried this again now, after disabling the Gnome-Apps repo and
changing to English (US) as primary locale, and got these output on the
suggested commands, and still with a dead gnome-control-center
