It is not possible.
GNOME Shell has its internal window manager (mutter) and can't work with
another one.
Is 'not possible' is a bit harsh... rather: is not tested/supported
by any of the GNOME Team ;)

gives some guide on how to configure it.
Obviously: any bug you encounter will be asked to be verified using
Mutter as Window Manager.
