Bryen I don't know what arrangements were made between open-slx and the board more over where the board relate with the community.
This is a brand I love as much as everybody else and have been involved with for more than 5 years. I have been in the #suse irc channel helping out for over 5 years now also in the mailing list and also as an importer of the retail brand and have only been dealing with open-slx for little over a month. I would prefer the community the board and open-slx work together. I am not looking to cause trouble but if I can be an extra voice to bridge a gap sure I will help out. I will email Stephan at Open-SLX and ask generally when he requires the images to be ready. I am sure he should tell the community or the board when his deadlines are and if the community don't design one then they can offer suggestions. Or if they are responsible then put them out to the community and let them vote but we are today near as damit 09/02/2011 and release day as 10/03/2011 so we have 30 days until release. Allowing two weeks for marketing that leaves the community to design, vote and submit designs to the board and open-slx. Either way all three parties should work together and clearly this didn't happen for 11.3 and are in great danger of again not happening with 11.4. I should also say that I didn't say the images are done already just a suggested eta of when I should have them so I can start promoting 11.4 over 11.3. I also have had problems contacting Stephan finding only the [email protected] email generates a response. I don't know what went on previously because I guess it didn't filter down to the main #suse channel. But time is running out I am not an artist but if anything needs doing and I can help I will. They completely circumvented the community on the 11.3 design and that caused an uproar. They agreed after to work with the marketing and artwork teams on this. I reached out directly to them, as a board member, a month ago to remind them of this promise. And they have yet to do anything. And now, from you, I hear for the first time that they are going ahead with whatever design they have with no time frame for us to work on this. This is a slap in the face of community work. And quite typical of openslx's tendency to hijack portions of the community. Just look what they did to German OWN today! 2. The question is not whether we come up with a design they're happy with. Its whether they come up with a design WE'Re happy with. We're the ones that are going to go around all over the world delivering Promo DVDs. That Promo DVD is our calling card. And to shove a design into our hands without any discussion and we have no choice or collaboration in the matter is not acceptable.
