Thanks for the replies. I have come to the conclusion that my bios is a bit screwy. It has two (surprisingly clearly) labelled options for USB Keyboard and USB mouse. However if I enable USB keyboard, the machine does not boot, that is, it never actually gets to point of booting and hangs during power on test.
