I agree, but I think the problem is the wrong data reported by acpi.
try start go runlevel 3, remove the modules, start X manually.

I try to remove asus_acpi,but the kpowersave always crashed.
I think asus_acpi is very useful.some information of my laptop using 
#cat /proc/acpi/asus/info

the data show the driver identified my laptop was ASUS M2E Module.
if we know which program produced some information like OSD, we can stop
that 
program !
