Well, think about it.  If Novell's Desktop is GNOME, and their Server is 
GNOME, why would they want to have a different standard on SUSE and OpenSUSE 
especially when that's where they get their code base?

We were all kicking around the office about just how long it would take Novell 
to kill SUSE like it did UnixWare, WordPerfect, now NetWare.  I was thinking 
it would take them a while.  Considering that every poll of any validity 
shows KDE has 2 users and developers per Gnome's 1 (very conservative) to 
more like 3:1 it would make sense to kill something you'd go to the 1.
