Perhaps you like to build postgres yourself if you have the tools to compile it anyway?
It comes down to typing "configure" and "make".
OK, perhaps add some configure parameters that fit your needs.

This way postgres gets installed in /usr/local/pgsql where it belongs. ;)
You could even run it parallel to the older SuSE version on another port AND with another data directory!.

No big deal, really.

The only issue I had on OpenSuSE 10.0 was to find the gettext-devel package on a external package-repository because its - for some reason or another - not in the DVD-ISO.
