I'm faced to upgrade OpenSuse 10.0 to 10.1 beta 1. I've installed
previous Suse versions several times using local installation CDs and
Yast2. This time I thought to try Internet Installation for the first
time, to get available all packaged software.
I've downloaded the CD boot image from
http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-10.1-OSS-beta1/iso/SUSE-10.1-CD-OSS-i386-Beta1-mini.iso
http://ftp.gwd.de
Burned and started booting the CD, selected "Installation" on the first
blue Suse screen and next got a window with the messages
* Linuxrc v 2.0.9 (kernel 2.6.15-git12-6-default)
* Verify that CD no 1 is in your drive
I became unsure why "CD no 1" is requested, as long as there is only one
single boot CD available for Internet Installation .
I selected "OK" and got another widget telling
* Could not find Suse Linux Installation CD
* Activating manual setup program
Obviously my boot drive (a HP DVD Writer) works as the the first screen
is displayed, but is it possible that the Installation in the next step
doesn't find it? This has always worked installing from local CDs.
Tried the manual setup program but was not able to come further.
Any ideas if something goes wrong here and suggestions how to continue?
That is how to apply the following Internet installation workflow
http://www.opensuse.org/Development_Version#Internet_Installation
Among others I didn't find out how to find the IP address and directory
path for the above download url, and I don't think I came to the step
where to point the YaST? installer to the installation repository (by
pressing F3 and then F4).
