Well, apparently not. It's not impossible, as you say, but it's not the intended purpose. It will not work fully, you will for example not get the correct YaST Online Update source unless you manually edit the product database file in /var/adm/YaST/ProdDB as I'm sure you're aware, since you've done it so many times. And in some cases it will fail miserably.
