Is this a reasonably fresh install of 10.1 Jim? There was a problem/bug in the early builds of KDE's screensaver, but that has been corrected with the latest updates of KDE 3.5.4. Not everyone experienced the problem, but I got a notice from bugzilla today or yesterday the bug was closed out, which means it was fixed.
