I still have my Dad's old rule, made of bamboo with an ivory veneer. I believe 
they came in three qualities back then, all bamboo, ivory veneer (as the one 
I have), and all ivory. The slides are celluloid, and have to be protected 
from sunlight.

I still have my K&E from college days, but I'm as rusty on that as I am on 
DOS.
