Please, that slashdot story turns "Novell contributes code to a free
software project" into FUD, even the commenters see past it.

The deal has nothing to do with it, without a deal they still could not
include violating GPLed software. The deal has no bearing on it, and every
distributor in the US is in the same situation, not just Novell.

Actively looking for infringements is not usually done by anyone, as that
would make them liable to triple damages and court costs in the event of
legal action.
