Network troubles maybe? I just installed 10.2 on a laptop and all the update
stuff worked perfectly (unlike 10.1)

Open the kde control center, then Sound and Multimedia->System Notifications

Slowness, a feature of 10.2? Hardly. You're most likely suffering from the
beagle build in. It's all a matter of personal preference, but IMHO beagle
uses far more system resources than it merits. I didn't appreciate the awkward
pauses caused by beagle during my online gaming, so beagle was euthanized and
removed from my laptop.
