[opensuse] Cannot mount thumb drive

After installation, I could insert a thumb usb drive and the system would 
recognize it and respond properly.  Now it doesn't, whether or not the 
drive is inserted at boot or later, and I cannot do a manual mount.  
I don't see a /dev file either (with 2 sata drives, I think it should be 
/dev/sdc...)  Does anyone know how to get the thumb drive working again?
