Thanks Brian for answering so fast Here is the content of /etc/sudoers

Defaults        always_set_home
Defaults        env_reset

# Runas alias specification

# User privilege specification
root    ALL = (All) NOPASSWD: ALL

Yes that is what I understood, but it does not work either. Perhaps I should 
empty the sudo thing in yast. I tried some tweaking in it but it was no good.
my previous SuSE was the 9.3 and there has been a  lot  of changes since.
