And add to it that you can't link in glibc statically if your code uses any of the name resolution functions like gethostbyname(3), because this needs the nss*.so libraries that are *always* loaded dynamically even when glibc is otherwise statically linked in (the linker in Solaris errors out if it encounters such a situation) .
