Yes, I see the same and I am running the cyrus imapd, so it does not
sound like a courier problem.  I have kmail 1.9.6 on kde 3.5.6

I initially thought that setting the mail check interval smaller would
help, but it seems not to matter, and I have to occasionally click into
a folder to get an accurate count.
