Hi All,

Up through SUSE 9.3, SaX2 accepted the following configuration for my on-board
graphics chip, SiS 630, and monitor, an NEC MultiSync 77F:

Monitor
display size: 325 x 244 mm, aspect ration 4:3
horizontal rate: 28 to 70 Khz
vertical rate: 54 to 120 Hz
colors: 8-bit, 16-bit (24-bit to 1280 x 1024; 32 bit to 1152 x 900)
--> 1600 x 1200 at 16-bit color was my preferred and default setting

SaX2 under 10.0 rejected every single attempt to replicate this configuration.
I ultimately 'transplanted' the relevant settings from my 9.3 xorg.conf into
the 10.0 file to get it working. I recall SaX2 under 10.0 also lacked some or
several configuration options as compared to previous releases.

SaX2 under 10.2 appears to have had many of the features that went 'missing'
under 10.0 returned, but it still won't allow my preferred settings
to 'take.' When I manually transplant the modelines, etc., into xorg.conf, X
seems to just ignore/reject them and they're overwritten to 1280 x 1024 at
24-bit.

I'm very unhappy about having lost 25% of my working 'real estate'... it's
badly cramping my style.

Do I really have to downgrade to 10.0 or is there another solution for this
problem? All ideas and suggestions will be gratefully appreciated.

TIA & regards,

Carl
