I've seen this happen with an old version of Windows. I'm not sure whether the problem exists with the OS or with the computer itself. But I do know the cure: you don't use a passive switch box, you have to buy a more expensive electronic switch box, and the problem should go away. Buy the switch with a money-back guarantee, in case it doesn't. BTW, you should be able to switch printers with a cheapie.
