I've setup a few from other brands.
Usually, these kind of devices provide either 2 serial ports, or a USB
Hub with two serial ports.

Can you start with the Device plugged out, wait for the system to become
quiet, plug in the device.

Then wait 10 seconds, as root type 'dmesg > log.txt'. then can you post
both that log.txt and /var/log/messages file?
