Thanks, Alexey, but due to my last two experiences with HP scanner/printers, 
and HPLIP driver,  I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. I also have a new 
HP scanner that's been out for six months and still doesn't have an HP linux 
driver. It's an HP 2340 that you have to use the HP 3900 driver on, and it 
puts a pinkish cast over the whole scan. 

I want a very capable scanner for some photographic work, including negative 
scans, and the typical all in ones have quite poor resolution.
