Yeah, that's what I've had to do in the past and after some messing around, it works. But AFAIK, Suse 10.2 should be able to recognize and configure the device without having to mess around with software from the Epson-site-that-Epson-won't-have-anything-to-do-with (a.k.a. avasys). So I'll perservere with Johannes' help and hopefully get it working.
