I don't think Thunderbird can use KWwalet.

The real problem is that when it thinks there is a problem with the
password - some of the servers give confusing error messages that may
make the client think there is a password problem - it doesn't give us
the option to try again or cancel without changing the password. I
simply deletes the old pass asks for it.

And from another lister's email we know that firefox does similar things.
