Correct.
There is another program, but I haven't suceeded with it. Really, hylafax
is the best. An overkill perhaps, but the best.

Another program must be using it. Who is giving that message, kppp? You do
not need ppp for faxing.
Anyway, I prefer old style console: I always used "wvdial" in a console to
connect my modem to internet.
