For those that have not yet played with Compiz-fusion, I have
grabbed a few screenshots of my laptop that show a few of the new
features. I usually don't get that hyped up about desktops. I just
want something that is clean, fast and that works. Compiz is
something to get excited about. I has some new features that
introduce a whole new way of doing things.

That's very spiffy and all, but other than eye candy, does it do
anything that simple KDE multiple desktops don't?

Well, it always depends on what YOU want. There are many features of CF that i find handy for manipulating workspaces. They include:

Scale - Present all open windows on the screen in a scaled-down view allowing you to choose one. Expo - Present all workspaces in a row and allow you to switch or to move windows between them. 3d transparent cube - gives a sense of space and freedom and is just plain fun. Rotate with mousewheel at screen edges - switch workspaces quickly and easily.
Fast and smooth rendering of windows,
Tile - ability to tile/un-tile windows in various ways.
Commands - set whatever commands you like to run when moving to/and clicking at edges and corners.
Just looks nice.

Heh. That's some of what it does for me. Many times (such as when re-installing) I've tried sticking with the default kde interface but always in the end miss the CF features and go back: even though that (on ati, still) means using xgl.

Bottom line - give it a try, you might be surprised that it is more than just good looking.

Cheers,
David
