Just go into the YaST Package Management, select the -bigsmp kernel with 
the description "Kernel with multiprocessor support and PAE" (and let 
it add all the necessary dependent packages) and install. Then 
immediately do an Online Update.

It should be no-muss, no-fuss. There should be a couple of new entries 
in your boot menu, but the default should have been switched to 
the -bigsmp kernel. (I don't think it discards the old -smp kernel, but 
I'm not 100% sure about that.)
