I have no idea who created the idea. I just know that we're supposed to
have one time passwords, that's all. Thanks
What is product being used for the HP-UX and Solaris systems?
Is that product ported to Linux?

I do not understand your comments
You have to protect the storage of the passwords
with another password.
This doesn't really simplify anything, and then when
root passwords are changed, THEN you have to your
"password vault" files on all of your systems as
well.
Plus, if you're not typing the root password regularly,
you're more than likely to forget what it is...then
when you need the root password in an emergency like
reviving a machine after a hardware failure...well
then, you're just screwed.
Remember, the idea of a "password vault" comes from
a company which is notorious for not giving a damn
if your systems are secure from intrusion or not.

Hi:
What do folks use for "password vaulting" on Linux, especially for
root?
That's a very bad idea. Even if I knew how to do such a thing,
I would not tell you -- unless you're hoping that Ford would
fire you in the near future. And considering the economic
situation around Detroit right now....
