That's odd, I must have missed the part where suse said they won't
support reiserfs any more. I'm running all my 10.3 installs on reiser
with no problems.

There was a controversy about this long ago. The only verifiable thing is that suse said that reiserfs was not going to be their default filesystem in the future; they never said it was not going to be supported.
