The point I was trying to make in my original posting was that
"earlysyslog" says "Default-Start: 5" -- and, indeed, chkconfig
turns it on only in run-level 5 (not 2&3).
I see what you mean -- it *exits* the script if udp or tcp
log-output destinations are found. Otherwise it starts the syslog
script with the passed parameter (like start or stop) and the
additional arg of "early".
I can't see why one wouldn't turn on this logging in
run levels 2 & 3? Wouldn't it equally make sense to start syslog
early if network destinations are absent?
