XDMCP (X Display Manager Control Protocol) is part of X. XDMCP allows a display manager (xdm, kdm, etc.) to manage a remote X display (server), usually over an ethernet connection. See "man xdm" or http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-HOWTO/XDMCP-HOWTO.html for starters. Google helps, too.
