For real RT-applications, you should want to avoid unneeded IRQ's at all
time: barebone, no graphics (but serial console), no virtualisation, no
add-on hardware and as much as possible unneeded io on your mobo
disabled.
Depends on the application.
If the app is a map showing the real position read from a gps on a car
traveling at a reasonable speed, you need video.
And if a piece of hardware or software needed for this app doesn't work in
linux, you need virtualization too.
