I have not tracked down the reason or cure, but I, too, loose my two 4-port video cards after a re-boot. The problem is that the bttv module does not load.
I simply open a root console, and "modprobe bttv". Both cards then return to service...without having to go into YAST for anything. (This problem did not show up until an online update a few weeks ago...my original install of 10.3 was fine in this regard.
