Doug, I believe that my father's printer is an HL-2040 and we have that working fine under OpenSuse 10.3. We did not install the printer under Yast - I downloaded and installed the current drivers from the rpm's on the Brother web site. First install the lpr drivers, then the cups wrappers for the lpr drivers. Then follow the instructions for setting it up via CUPS. When we did it on my dad's machine I initially forgot to install the CUPS wrapper - once I did that it worked straight away. However, we are using 10.3 as opposed to 9.3 so YMMV.
