I have on my machine a class BasicPropertyTag that does not escape anything by default, PropertyTag only extends this class and adds the auto-escape functionality. This will enable users that do not want this auto-escaping to disable it with a simple change to the taglib definition (for migration purposes for example). It will also remove a confusing configuration option in the webwork.properties file. I'll commit this change if noone has explained why this is stupid in a day or two.
