You sound frustrated.
Maybe as a noob, I have not the right to complain, anyway:
It took me days to got OpenVAS running, well, sort of.
OpenSuse: no luck.
Debian: no luck.
CentOS: no luck.
Fedora: Yeah, it installs and runs!
But gsad eating all CPU. If I understand all the threads, it is microhttpd 
related. For years now.
Maybe I should look into another direction. Metasploit?
To be clear: I have every respect for developers, since I am no developer ;-)
But bugs that stay open for years make me suspicious.
