If you lose packets in TCP mode, something is very very wrong with your
network.  TCP segments larger than a link MTU should always lead to
ICMP unreachables, and TCP sending smaller segments.   (Or, the *outside*
TCP MSS should be adjusted by the network components in question to 
never hit that situation).
