Yes, but the procedure to replace the crippled bootloader over telnet is pretty
easy [2], though it still brings a potential risk of bricking the device.
OTOH MPR-A1 has just 16M RAM while my MIFI came with 32M, so I would
recommend double-checking with the seller the actual amount of RAM
before buying (16M is certainly considered not enough for full OpenWrt
experience).
Today, 32MB SDRAM is mandatory if you want to do something useful with a router
(including having a Luci web admin). Unfortunately, most of the time, a seller
cannot tell you the amount of RAM in a product, though it would be a nice
characteristic to have (with Flash size):(
The image for MPR-A1 works nicely on this board so there's no sense
adding it separately.
What about the GPIOs?
The ethernet issue turned out to be the same that was discussed before,
i.e. it works properly only when VLAN support is enabled; so failsafe
mode is not accessible yet.
