The sender domain has a DMARC Reject/Quarantine policy which disallows
sending mailing list messages using the original "From" header.
To mitigate this problem, the original message has been wrapped
automatically by the mailing list software.

I think I know now what happened.
In order to save disk space on my laptop, and in order to save Internet
bandwidth on my slowish connection, I have got used to do shallow
cloning (git checkout --depth 1).
getver.sh does not like shallow clones.
